Our History

Hot Tamale opened in Canton, New York on February 8, 2010 and was founded by Canton Central Alum, Class of 1998 graduate, Marc Morley. Hot Tamale's recipes and different menu items are the result of ideas from various restaurants across the United States and Canada and some of Marc's original ideas. The motto of Hot Tamale is "Homemade, Healthy, in a Hurry" and its mission is to give the community another fast food alternative. The company now has four locations: Canton, Potsdam, Massena and Ogdensburg New York.

Marc Morley, who owns and runs the company with his partner Meg Martin, got the idea for Hot Tamale after attending the University of Massachusetts for four years where he played on the Division I Men's Lacrosse Team. Every time he would come home to visit he would say that Canton and Potsdam should have a burrito place like they have in Amherst.

Marc tried for months to find a good location in Potsdam but one place after another fell through, which led him to open the first restaurant in Canton after nabbing a great location on Main Street. Several months later, an ideal spot opened up in Potsdam, so he jumped on that, began renovations and opened in November of 2010.

Every week he is asked by customers to expand to a different location. Who knows where you'll see the next Hot Tamale!
